Sculpted day out

Some 18 SA artists have installed their work in the NIROX Sculpture Park and Mastercard are importing the best of Franschhoek’s food and wine… It’s the Winter Sculpture Fair from 4 to 5 May 2013 at the Cradle of Humankind and we’ve got five double tickets to give away!

“The Winter Sculpture Fair will provide the perfect city escape, giving visitors the rare opportunity to savour exquisite food and wine produced by Franschhoek’s top chefs and winemakers in the magnificent setting of NIROX – a highly acclaimed sculpture park situated in a 15 hectare private nature reserve,” says Ross Douglas, director of Artlogic, the event organisers.

Entitled After the Rainbow Nation 2013, the exhibition includes work by the likes of Beth Armstrong, Beezy Bailey, Debbie Bell, Kevin Brand, David Brown, Willem Boshoff, Marco Cianfanelli, Barend de Wet, Guy du Toit, Richard Forbes, Gordon Mudzunga, Marcus Neustetter, Serge Nitegeka, Angus Taylor, Strijdom van der Merwe, Edoardo Villa, Gavin Younge and Mawande Zenzile.

To accompany a lazy meander through the contemporary outdoor sculpture exhibition, some 30 of Franschhoek’s finest wine and beverage producers will be included in a country fair showing a variety of cheeses, charcuterie, wines and chocolates, as well as upmarket handmade items.

Deluxe lunches prepared by chefs restaurants including Le Quartier Français, Pierneef a la Motte Restaurant, Reuben’s and Cotage Fromage, among others, can also be enjoyed at picnic tables in the lush gardens. A host of award-winning wineries such as Môreson, La Motte, Boekenhoutskloof and Vrede en Lust, to name a few, will also be selling wine and bubbly by the glass or bottle.

Tickets cost R100, and are available through www.webtickets.co.za, with a 10% discount if they are purchased using a MasterCard card. Children under 12 are free. The fair is open from 11am to 5pm on Saturday 4 May and Sunday 5 May 2013.
