SAOTA’s First Architectural Project in Mallorca

WORDS Cheri Morris IMAGES Adam Letch

Set upon the Mediterranean island of Mallorca, Bora Headquarters, designed by local architecture firm SAOTA, is a resort-style home/workspace that draws inspiration from both luxury and locality.

The client’s vision for this enigmatic space was inspired by the wide range of contemporary Cape Town projects that SAOTA has completed. Jutting from the side of a steep embankment, innovative and functional design practices were needed to ensure easy pedestrian and motorised access. A linear layout allows for each room to welcome panoramic views of blue, making the connection between indoor and outdoor almost seamless.

Bordered by stone walls, the three bedrooms on the upper level are interspersed by luscious green courtyards and reconnected by steel holding beams. An amalgamation of materials – glass, stone, plaster, steel and wood – display working harmony between regional influences and modern mantras.

A shaded outdoor terrace offers solace from the summer sun and borders a picture-perfect pool. Pergolas and trees continue controlled temperatures for maximum comfort while signature barrel-vaulted ceilings allow the gallery to be flooded with natural light. The elegant and earthy interiors are the combined work of ARRCC and Revuelta y Stahn Architects and feature hand-crafted pieces alongside designer furniture from Minotti, Giorgetti, Poliform and Molteni & Co.

Boasting works in 86 countries, this is SAOTA’s first completed project in Mallorca, Spain. See more of their projects here
