Johannes Budde of BUDDE introduces his latest stool collection, RUG’N ROLL – an exploration of the textural and structural synergy between concrete and a rug-like drapery, both of which combined make the industrial concrete composite, Concrete Canvas®.

Exhibited at Alcova during Milan Design Week 2022, the RUG’N ROLL collection has all the mechanical benefits of concrete – it’s waterproof, fire-resistant and has an extraordinary lifespan used inside or out. Simultaneously, it’s got the physical and aesthetic characteristics of material and functional benefits too: Concrete Canvas® can fast track the installation process by up to ten times.

As for how it came to be, it was many attempts at bending the material that revealed the best method was by hand. The result? Organic shapes, like rug cigars in transit, coated in vibrant colours and a finish that feels like smooth fabric.
