Room 13 Homecoming Collection

WORDS Mary Garner

Cape Town-based graphic design studio, Room 13, headed up by sisters Michelle and Nina van Reenen, has launched a new collection of textiles and fabrics, entitled Homecoming.

Homecoming is inspired by the way their mother chose to decorate Welgelegen, their family home for 25 years, which was turned into a guest house, as well as providing an initial space for Room 13’s offices.

After selling the guest house, the new owners commissioned Michelle and Nina’s mother to redecorate the 14 rooms, starting with the sisters’ old office, which was of course, Room 13. Room 13 supplied the wallpaper and fabrics for the redecoration of the house.

The 100% cotton collection is made up of elegant botanicals, bold geometrics and intricate filigrees.

“As designers we are continuously hunting and gathering inspiration and ideas, searching for a common thread amongst the clutter from which to build a cohesive range,” says the duo. “This range represents the fantasy and rhythm of this magical house with its big spirit. It encompasses a nostalgic trip down memory lane that has captured the essence of our happy childhood.”
