Puzzle Pin-ups

Although student designer Lucas Adams wishes he’d invented Velcro or the Ziptie, we think his Puzzle Pin-ups, under his new label Kraftisan, are a pretty clever invention in itself.

Laser cut from medium-density fibrewood, the pin boards are designed so that you can add on sections as you go, creating a pin board that sprawls out as wide as you desire. And you don’t even have to puncture your walls; suction cups make the Puzzle Pin-ups a win for any flat surface.

The name Kraftisan was “born from the idea of handcrafted, quality goods, produced in an artisanal way, using the aid of machines,” says Lucas. The Kraftisan online store went live yesterday and although the Puzzle Pin-ups are the only items on sale at present, Lucas says he’s constantly on the hunt for new ideas to morph into environmentally friendly products.

“I carry a small sketch pad around with me wherever I go, noting things, habits and ideas. I often sit down and work out what products could really help people. Kraftisan’s life blood is making and designing for a functional purpose and I’m keen to get involved with any new ideas that fit this brief.” At the moment, Lucas is looking at doing a specialty item for old-school illustrators who still use Copic or Pantone markers.

The Kraftisan label has a crowd-sourcing approach, says Lucas. “It seems only right that the market should dictate design, and not the other way around. We can’t wait to interact with everyone.”

Kraftisan aims to keep their products affordable and 100% recyclable, and Lucas says that at this stage he hopes to explore the different avenues of design and branch further into the local furniture-design scene.
