6. Straw salt-and-pepper shakers by DesignK : “An adorable spin on the traditional salt-and-pepper shakers,” coos our managing editor Lise Avis. “You can use these as part of your table decor!”|
4. Runaway Lamp by Nika Zupanc : Chantel Hans, our editorial and online assistant, seems to have a heart of green. “Still in prototype stage, this adorable little Runaway Lamp is to be made from metal and plastic, with a wind-up dynamo. An energy saver with class!” she grins.|
1. Giant Plush Teddy by Iza Rutkowska, Form and Shapes Foundation : “I am deeply envious of the residents of Warsaw who one day, out of the blue, came across this delightful public art intervention. Can you just imagine how fantastic their day was after climbing all over it?” says our features and online ed Nadine Botha.|
3. Artwork by Rodan Kane Hart : “It’s the Joburg Art Fair and there is nothing but art on my mind. I’ve been lusting over these Rodan Kane Hart pieces for a while and I hope he shows them at the fair, so I can — uhm — get close to them again,” whispers our ed-at-large Malibongwe Tyilo.|
5. Timbre Speaker by Casey Lin : Our art director Anton Pietersen was wowed by the truth-to-material genius of a wooden box for speaker with two glass vases as equaliser. What sold him is the ability to play “with different objects or vases, moving them to create different sounds.”|
7. Skinned by Knol : “Walking into a space where ethereal doors and walls flutter as you walk by…” features writer Debbie Loots’ poetic sensibility was stimulated by these latex casts of “architectural elements repurposed as fragmented memories of their original structures”.|
COMPILED BY VISI
As if the Joburg Art Fair this weekend weren’t enough art, or because of all the art in the air, the VISI team is – almost all – infatuated with weird, wonderful and surprising artworks. A giant teddy takes to the streets of Warsaw, Nigerians show off seriously big hair, latex casts of buildings flap in the breeze and Rodan Kane Hart is an artist for all seasons. Just to keep it real we also found an exquisitely ingenious speaker made of wood and glass (check out some other interesting speakers here), a wind-up light that’s as cute as a mouse and a minimalist-supreme salt-and-pepper shaker. Here are the top VISI Picks of the Week Series – Week 28.
