8. Marcel Wanders Spring/Summer 2013 for Marks&Spencers : “It’s not that I like all of Marcel Wanders’s designs all of the time, but I love that this ‘design rockstar’ has made himself accessible through a department store range,” says features and online editor Nadine Botha. “One day in SA…”|
4. Rudi by Lukas/Peet : “With all exposed light bulb design trend that’s re-emerging, this pendant light has my vote,” says art director Anton Pietersen. “It comes in three versions from single to double loop and different size variations.” Photo: Joseph de Leo.|
5. King Edison by Young & Battaglia : “It would be great to illuminate my library… when I have one, one day!” exclaims managing editor Lise Avis. How adorable is the perfect tiny chandelier suspended inside a glass lightbulb and hung on braided silken cable?|
3. Diogene by Renzo Piano : The latest addition to the Vitra Campus in Germany is a wooden cabin for a single inhabitant — preferably deputy editor Annemarie Meintjes: “I visited the campus in January as a guest of Duravit and Renzo chose the perfect spot for his cabin!”|
6. Shadow Bookends by Pin Jang : “I am loving all things animal right now, and these pieces by Pin Jang, which are showing at the Fresh Taiwan pavilion at Maison & Objet, just hit the spot. I want! I must!” says editor-at-large Malibongwe Tyilo.|
7. Out of Objects by Treindl : Features writer Debbie Loots is very impressed by this German designer's idea to cut out and make products from existing furniture: “He cleverly calls it ‘parasite production’ as the new product needs its ‘host’ to exist!”|
1. Grow Bottle by Potting Shed Creations : What a clever way to upcycle wine bottles - a counter top herb garden! Account director Cat Anderson found this nifty product and thinks it's a "cute idea to inspire you for a spring kitchen".|
2. Living Walls by MossCo : At the Homemaker's Expo in Cape Town, content director Sumien Brink found this ingenious maintenence-free, acoustic dampening living walls product made of moss. "If I had a new house, I would cover it in this!" she beamed.|
COMPILED BY VISI
The team put the upcoming spring edition of VISI to bed this week and, appropriately, the top VISI picks of the week series – week 25 represent a yearning for bright, green and world-class design. Both Anton and Lise found original takes on the bare bulb trend, which would cast fantastic shadows with Mali’s bookends. Sumien found a living moss wall at Homemaker’s Expo, for which she dreams of a new home to use in, and Cat found a nifty way to grow herbs. Annemarie fanaticises about relocating to the Vitra Campus. Debbie is enchanted with products that parasite from existing furniture and Nadine longs to buy high-end design at a local department store.
