COMPILED BY VISI
From a cedar-clad house and locally designed signet rings to Japanese flower pencils and forest installations, these are the top VISI picks of the week series – week 214.
1. Shore House by Leroy Street Studio
“This is exactly what I’d look for in a dream home,” says Online Editor Lindi Brownell Meiring. “Clad in cedar wood, the house aims to blend into its natural surroundings. While the facade is what really grabs me, the interiors are equally thoughtful.”

2. Strijdom van der Merwe’s Latest Work
“Renowned South African land artist Strijdom van der Merwe works with nature, preferring to use materials found at the specific sites he works on,” says Social Media Manager Ashraf Booley. “While in a forest in Kamiyama, Japan, he used a pocket knife to shave a thin layer of moss off tree bark, creating geometric shapes that will reintegrate into the environment. The result is unexpectedly haunting.”

“Cape Town-based jewellery design studio Long Jean Silver has launched a new range of signet rings,” says Features Editor Amelia Brown. “These timeless pieces are available in sterling silver and 9ct yellow gold.”

4. Otomo Studio’s Japanese Flower Pencils
“Otomo Studio has designed a set of pencils that celebrates Japan’s appreciation for flowers,” says Managing Editor Samantha Charles. “The pencils are based on the five most well-known flowers in Japan, namely the bellflower, evergreen, dandelion, plum and cherry. The best thing is that when you sharpen the pencils, the shavings look like petals!”

4. Gerhard van Vuuren Portraits
“Local artist Gerhard van Vuuren creates striking portraits that perfectly capture subtle facial expressions,” says Content Producer Mary Garner. “His work is on show at the Julie Miller Art Investment Gallery in the Mall of Africa in Midrand.”
