New Designs: Handmade By Me

INTERVIEWED BY Lindi Brownell Meiring

We loved what we saw when we popped into Sera Holland’s store at KAMERS recently, so we decided to get in touch and find out everything there is to know about her pretty new designs.

What inspired your latest designs?

Well, aside from plants, I have been wanting to add a similar geometric design to the proteas and strelitzias for a while now, and the aloe just lends itself so well to that style. It also keeps it South African inspired.

As for the prickly pears, I just love them! I love their shape, their colours and every time I see them in life or in photos I fall in love. I also once came across the cutest little children’s book about a lonely little cactus who just wanted someone to give him a hug – I fell in love with that too.

You’ve expanded your product range to include adorable baby accessories. Will you be adding any more products to your range, using your new print designs?

Yes! As you already know, I have just launched my new nappy covers, a product inspired by my struggle to find beautiful, locally made baby shower gifts for my friends… and my super cute little nephew, Jack.

I am also about to launch my Big 5 reusable placemats for kids, which can be turned into face masks. The placemats were actually the inspiration for the Big 5 range. I am just so excited that while they are very cute and fun for kids to make themselves, they are also reusable in two different ways.

While they may not be brand new products, I have added the new designs to my recently launched LUX panama cushion cover range and will be adding them to my range of bedding pillowcases shortly too.
