Southern Guild Cape Town presents solo exhibition Idangatye, meaning ‘fire’ in Xhosa, by ceramicist Madoda Fani in association with ceramic artist Chuma Maweni.
You can expect to see a stunning collection of hand-crafted ceramics by the critically acclaimed Madoda Fani (who we previously featured here). The smoke-fired vessels see the creation of nature-inspired ceramic art pieces made with a contemporary approach to an age-old medium. The curvaceously smooth forms echo shapes found in nature, while refined patterns and burnished surfaces express the artist’s fascination and respect for cultural rituals, as well as insects and cattle forms.
The exhibition includes new pieces that express Madoda’s growth and progression as a talented artist and sculptor. Chuma Maweni recently started his own ceramics company that specialises in the production of high-quality pieces, exploring the traditional craft with a contemporary voice.
The exhibition runs until 15 March 2017 and is located at Unit 1, 10-16 Lewin Street, Woodstock, Cape Town.
