A new textile and clothing brand called Karu has just launched in Cape Town.
The range, which was co-founded by fashion, interiors and textile designer Alexis Barrell and brand marketer Fiona Mackay, is inspired by flora, fauna and the colours of the Karoo. The collection aims to combine modern sensibility with country living for the discerning homeware and fashion enthusiast.
The Karu range varies from bed and table linen to kaftans, shirts and sleepwear. Pieces are gently hand-dyed in earthy tones with the addition of graphic block prints and hand-loomed details.
When manufacturing its designs, Karu works exclusively with small-production and independent artisans to keep waste low and produce the best quality products.
The home range includes beautiful quilts, pillows and throws and hand-loomed linens and ikats, which can be used both outside and indoors.
