Local Design: Candice Lawrence’s New Lighting Collection

Candice Lawrence, the designer behind Cape Town-based studio Modern Gesture, has released a new lighting range, as seen at the NEXT18 Trade Exhibition.

The new range, which includes a beaded pendant and a standing light, also includes a lampshade, made up of three wooden rings. The lampshade is inspired by the shape and beauty of African beaded necklaces. The modular nature of the design allows you to move each individual ring to any position you’d like, or leave all three rings aligned.

Candice’s lighting designs were first spotted as part of 2015’s Nando’s Hot Young Designer Talent Search.

Apart from lighting, Candice also designs and produces homeware and stationery items. “Modern Gesture believes that in each piece created a story is embedded into its materials, capturing the time and care engaged in the creation of each item,” she says on her website.
