Homeware and craft boutique Eclectic Swazi in Parkhurst, Johannesburg, recently launched the 2012 collection from Gone Rural, a non-profit organisation in the Kingdom of Swaziland.
What started as a small local business working with 30 women has evolved into a company providing income for over 760 rural women and supplying products to retail outlets across the world. Over the last 4 years Gone Rural has quadrupled the women’s income and, with the founding of non-profit organization Gone Rural boMake in 2007, an even greater impact has been made on the women’s lives and their communities though the implementation of health and education programs.
With all profits re-invested into the business or donated towards the social programs, Gone Rural is a unique model which has attracted global recognition. Even better news is the widespread reach far beyond the borders of the Kingdom creating international exposure for the women and their communities.
The 2012 collection sees the expansion of the tableware and home accessories lines and the introduction of a new raw material aluminium. Gone Rural continues to re-cycle combining waste fabrics and sequins made from water bottles into the weaves. Later on in 2012 Gone Rural will be launching a signature line which will be a tribute brand, showcasing ground breaking work in hand craft and celebrating the incredible women and their stories.
