Top international architects are set to hit South African shores in June to present an exciting design masterclass and a series of public lectures.
Speakers at the event – organised by the South African Institute of Architecture (SAIA) and ArchitectureZA, and sponsored by The Cement and Concrete Institute – include Elena Rocchi from Barcelona, Claudio Vekstein from Buenos Aires and Angelo Bucci from Sao Paolo. Local mentors include Andrew Makin (Design Workshop SA) and Peter Rich.
The studio-based masterclass will take place in and around Durban during the weekend of 16-19 June 2011, and will focus on site-specific design investigations around the theme of “Edge”. Durban is a city of edges: the edge between land and ocean, mountain and wetland, city and landscape, formal and informal. It’s also a place of negotiation between cultures, and a place of transition with spaces in transformation.
