WORDS: Alma Viviers reporting from Stockholm
French Designer Inga Sempé takes centre stage at the 2012 Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair as this year’s guest of honour.
At the opening to the show Inga mused that she often works with more Swedish production houses than with companies in her home country. This affinity for Scandinavian design is clear in her latest product for one of the oldest Swedish furniture producers, Gärsnäs. The Österlen chair embodies the Scandinavian approach of minimal material, functionality and elegant detailing.
The chair in ash or beech uses the traditional bend wood technique with carved away section to create flat surfaces for comfort. This detail also results in a lovely play of light on the chair.
As the guest of honor Inga also designed the entrance lounge to the show, a quite space where weary showgoers can rest. During the Stockholm Design Week another Swedish brand Wästberg is hosting an exhibition of some of her models and sketches at the 17th century Skridskopaviljongen.
