Local lifestyle store Weylandts has recently spread the Mzansi magic to down under by opening their first international store in Abbotsford, Melbourne. Of course you don’t have to go to Australia for the best of Weylandts, which has also launched its new summer catalogue right here in SA.
A 4 000 sqm old Aussie match factory got the Chris Weylandts and Kim Smith treatment recently when this couple did what they do best with derelict freestanding buildings – spruce it up into a delightful home emporium to showcase their personal selection of beautiful home furnishings and wares.
With 30% of the stock produced in South Africa and the rest collected from more than 80 countries, the new Melbourne Weylandts is a one-stop shop of original design, antique pieces and ethnic artworks.
And, the couple have enough experience under their belts to make any good-living shopper’s dreams come true: it took them running seven successful stores in SA and five years of walking the Melbourne streets to familiarise themselves with local culture and custom, before eventually putting their money where the Melbourne street cred is.
Opening a chic fusion bistro is also on the cards soon, in the form of The Kitchen, where local flavoured food like Franschhoek trout gravadlax and seared lamb caponata on artisan bread will be on offer. With their SA restaurant, Maison, being nominated as one of the top 20 restaurants in the country, the Aussies have lots of good food and a range of SA wine to look forward to at this new Weylandts store.
Well, good on ya, mate!
Much closer to SA shores, Weylandts have also just launched its fab new summer catalogue. Browse it here.
