If the quirky Two Shoes-designed posters and website are anything to go by, this weekend’s Flamjangled Tea Party just outside Cape Town is an event not to be missed.
This weekend, Contermanskloof Wine Farm – 25 kms out of Cape Town – plays host to the Flamjangled Tea Party. And, while the festival sounds like a whole heap of crazy, creative, child-like fun, it was the flyer and website design for the event that really got our tongues wagging.
Toby Attwell of Two Shoes Design was responsible for the inspired Tea Party designs and said the aim was to keep things fun, quirky and, of course, typographical.
“We got inspiration from old circus posters and retro festival designs. The base of the design came from last year’s festival design, with a new colour palette and type treatment, and the addition of characters like the fox and the mice,” Toby said.
“Basically, we wanted the posters, fliers and website to have the feel of a children’s story for silly adults. Which is exactly what the Tea Party is all about!”
The designs – both digital and in print – are theatrical and charming, with a little dose of zany fun thrown in, and a lot of attention paid to colour choice and the use of interesting fonts.
Organiser Regan Tacon describes the Flamjangled Tea Party as an outdoor festival that is “eclectic, humourous, glittering, freaky, funky, jiving, up-beat, jazzy, swinging, sizzling, folksy, rock ‘n rolling, wonderful, gentle, relaxing, silly, naughty and great”. Participants can expect dress-up, great music, top food, fine cocktails, oversized art, surprising performances, ridiculous games and daft competitions.
