A new art gallery has been added to the growing collection of exhibition spaces on Cape Town’s Loop Street.
With renowned photographer Marc Stanes acting as curator, and Dewald Prinsloo and Leonard de Villiers driving the design, EBONY is joining the ranks of Cape Town’s elite with the opening of a new gallery space at 67 Loop Street.
EBONY’s first store was launched in Franschhoek about four years ago, showcasing some of South Africa’s best creative design talents as well as unique pieces of art.
The new gallery will replace their Camps Bay store, and will include new and collectable works by some of the country’s top artists including Hannes Harrs, Cecil Skotnes, Gerard Sekoto and The Heath Family.
It will, however, also showcase contemporary pieces by the likes of Pat Mautloa, Conrad Botes, Mduduzi Xakaza, Hennie Meyer, Katherine Glanday, Lothar Bottcher and Stephen Rautenbach.
The new gallery’s setting and decor – featuring porcelain artworks and soft furnishings by Michael Chandler – promises to be a beautiful canvas for the artists’ work.
“There are a considerable amount of reputable galleries and dealers in South Africa,” notes Marc Stanes. “Our focus is to give the collector an accessible view in a non-sterile environment that they can understand. At the same time, our art offering has to be of the highest quality and not merely ‘wallpaper’.”
