The Absa KKNK will take over Oudtshoorn for the 18th time from 31 March to 7 April. Celebrating the arts, craft, good food and drink, this highlight of the SA arts calendar promises to grip the imagination and the senses.
Drama lovers can look forward to Nicola Hanekom’s third site-specific production called Babbel, the Namjive dance company’s open-air production Vlam, Malan Steyn’s production Bos, and the Afrikaans version of Sam Shepard’s award-winning Buried Child, translated by Saartjie Botha as Doodsnikke.
A new addition to the festival is the Deurbraal venue, which will host young up-and-coming artists – a great place to talent scout for the future generation of stage and screen stars. Kiddies will also be kept entertained by their favourite dramatic characters, such as Liewe Heksie and Lollos.
Food stalls, wine tastings, rugby screenings and lifestyle stalls will keep festival goers busy in between productions, while local celebrities and music groups will keep the festival buzz going all week long.
Although the Absa KKNK remains the premier South African festival for theatre and music in Afrikaans, the programme offers shows that are sure to excite a wider audience.
Ticket sales open nationwide on 27 January at Computicket.
