Yulande Roxburgh, CEO of Vox Furniture South Africa, and Katarzyna Bryze, head of Vox Research and Development Department, Poland chat to VISI about the international furniture design brand.
How do you go about developing a new product?
It’s always about a reponse to human needs. We observe how the world is changing and how people actually live.
Tell us about collaborations with designers.
Vox invites designers to work with us from the very beginning of the design process. Together, we focus on research geared towards understanding the human experience. We then form multidisciplinary teams that create insights for the final design brief.
What is one of your most popular pieces?
The Simple Collection, designed by Marta Krupińska, became a best seller straight after its launch, a first for Vox. It’s clear to us that meticulous research into people’s habits helped us to design a simple yet versatile collection.
Any materials, colours or textiles that are sought-after at the moment?
In the beginning we designed many colourways, but we’ve come to realise that more neutral, subtle options give our collections a timeless look and feel. The philosophy behind our designs is not focused on temporary fashions that change rapidly; we design solutions.
What’s your advice for young designers?
Put people at the centre of your attention and focus on their needs.
