Deborah Bell at Everard Read

Celebrated artist Deborah Bell is acclaimed for her transcendental sculpture, printmaking and paintings. Her latest exhibition, “Presence”, opens on 17 March at the Circa on Jellicoe Gallery in Johannesburg.

Deborah’s latest work focuses on spirituality. In the artworks she uses cross-cultural imagery to represent her realisation that art is a way of connecting people, no matter where they are.

Bell’s work has always been highly spiritual. Memory and the role it plays personally and in society thematically prevail throughout her body of work. Her work explores notions of “Africanness” and what it means to her as a South African artist.

“Presence” will be showing until 30 April 2011. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday 09h00–18h00, and Saturday from 09h00–13h00.
