David Krynauw Living

A beautiful chapel marks the beginning of David Krynauw living.

From thoughtfully designed original furniture to innovative collectibles, structures were a natural evolution for David Krynauw. All he needed was a project and the land. The first came with the planned wedding of Gideon Pieterse and Ane Combrink, two architectural technologists on the David Krynauw in-house design team.

The chapel, designed by Gideon and developed and executed by the team, is made from saligna timber that was grown, cut and cured on the Krynauw family farm near Piet Retief, where David’s father had the foresight to plant Eucalyptus saligna trees. This method of building can be applied to anything, from a chair to a house, says David.

The chapel took a year of planning and had a two-week construction turnaround.

“Pieces are designed to be modular and manufactured in-house to ensure assembling on site is as effortless as possible. The scale of the structure is determined by the sum of its parts.” The structure is moveable and has minimal impact on the landscape on which it is erected, although it can be built on a foundation.

The chapel, which will be transformed into a showroom, is the David Krynauw tagline brought to life: Design. Build. Farm.
