Local fibre artist Danielle Clough, who we’ve previously featured here, was recently commissioned to create two pieces for Netflix TV show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman.
We caught up with her to find out more about how this this exciting opportunity came about and what we can expect next.
How did the Netflix job come about?
I received an email from the agency that deals with Netflix last year to see if I would be interested in creating artwork for the new David Letterman show. I didn’t hear back from them and felt grateful that they had just emailed. When I got a mail to ask if I was still available and the guest was Tina Fey I was overjoyed and stopped my life to create the works. I’m a huge fan of Tina Fey.

Tina Fey.
How long did it take you to create the David Letterman and Tina Fey portraits?
It took me roughly three weeks to create both portraits.
Describe in three words how you felt when David Letterman changed his Instagram profile pic to your embroidered design…
This is a strange one! I guess the words would be… Quite warm inside.

David Letterman.
Do you have any more exciting work coming up?
I have just completed a 1.2-metre piece on expanded metal for the Nike head office in Johannesburg and am going to spend the next chunk of time creating work for shows and myself to improve my skill. My focus this year is to challenge myself and level up!
