Cool Spaces: Seoul House

Strong diagonal lines, a relief-patterned facade and the fact that it was bought because the plot was previously inhabited by a shaman makes this beautifully strange mixed-use home a wonder of its own.

Designed by Moon Hoon and named Dogok Maximum, this narrow yet spacious home is located in the Gangnam district of Seoul, South Korea. It boasts a unique shape with tiny windows that let in enough light to keep it comfortable while simultaneously offering enough privacy from any eyes peeping in from the cramped urban surrounds.

The plot was previously occupied by a shaman and a fortuneteller and the architect used this as inspiration for his design. It features a reception and basement photography studio, an upper level structure dedicated to a spacious living, sleeping and kitchen area, as well as an elaborate dressing room and study area. It also has a compact lift, rooftop terrace, designer parquet flooring, chequerboard tiling, and a bathroom in the uppermost structure of the house with a hot tub that overlooks the neighbourhood.
