Cool Spaces: Budapest Apartment

WORDS Cheri Morris IMAGES Áron Erdőháti

Situated in the city of Budapest, Hungary is a newly renovated apartment dating back to 1928, a charismatic canvas of white minimalism dotted with arresting pops of colour.

Reimagined by couple Geza and Margit, the Hungarian-Belgian duo behind Margeza Design Studio, this lively and energetic space is where muted minimalism meets colourful boho beauty. A total overhaul of the space saw walls knocked down and spaces opened up in an effort to make the double level 110 m2 space as free-flowing and spacious as possible. Large custom window frames welcome glorious 200-degree views of the historically rich city and invite the varied light schemes of the day to play upon the interiors.

A living wall in the lounge brings a touch of nature to the inner city dwelling, while custom-designed furniture pieces add a statement of vibrancy to an otherwise crisp white space. Bright yellow Italian Girotonda armchairs from the ’80s make the perfect spot to stargaze from through a slanted window in the lounge. A custom-made Budapest-shaped carpet features a red dot indicating exactly where the apartment lies. Candy-coloured glass vases and ornamentals are the flowers of the grand white shelves alongside the staircase that leads you to magnificent terraces overlooking the Parliament buildings.
