A collaboration between the Cape Guild of Weavers and some of South Africa’s top fashion designers saw the creation of a range of new woollen designer garments fit for international runways.
Members of the Cape Guild of Weavers hand-wove natural undyed South African Merino wool yarn into pieces of square-weave fabric, which were then used to create signature pieces by some of our top local fashion designers, including KLûK CGDT, Hendrik Vermeulen, Habits and Tamara Cherie Dyson. Each garment reflects the extraordinary talents of all of the artisans involved in each step of its creation, from the production and spinning to the weaving, designing and tailoring.
To learn more about South African Merino wool, head to Wool Week, hosted by Cape Wools, in Port Elizabeth from 30 March – 2 April 2016. Wool textiles by young and established designers will be on show in Walmer Park Shopping Centre and live sheep and wool craft demonstrations will be held at the adjacent DF Malherbe High School.
