Clever Collaboration: Dear Data

WORDS Lindi Brownell Meiring

Dear Data is a collaborative project between Giorgia Lupi and Stefanie Posavec, a project that saw these two information designers come together to create something great, despite living on the opposite ends of the world.

The project, which focuses on the recording of personal data on postcards, continued for a whole year. Each week, the designers would collect and measure data associated with their daily lives and then draw a visual representation on a postcard-size sheet of paper before mailing it to each other.

On the front of the postcard there would be a unique representation of our weekly data, and, on the other side (in addition to the necessary postage and address), we would squeeze in detailed keys to our drawings: the code to enable the recipient to decipher the picture, and to fantasise about what had happened to her new friend the week before.”
