We take a look inside The House of Chommies, Cape Town’s new bright and vibrant dog boutique that stocks everything from mouthwatering treats to bespoke water bowls for our four-legged friends.
Taken from the colloquial term for pals, Chommies is situated in the Georgian heritage building Ravenswood House – dating back to the 1800s on Hatfield street in the heart of the Cape Town CBD.
The carefully curated space is both a creative haven for humans and dogs alike, featuring bold colour-blocked walls, a dog-friendly courtyard complete with tables and a water fountain and a vast array of pet fashion, decor, treat and accessory options that are aesthetically pleasing for owners and fun for pets.
“We want our customers and their dogs to feel inspired but also at ease as if in their own home, helping them to unwind from today’s busy world,” explains owner, Nathalie Klijn on the design of the retail space. “As we naturally evolve into more of a lifestyle brand that celebrates colour-happy contemporary design and artisanal luxuries made in South Africa, we wanted a feel-good, welcoming space that is a sensory experience for people and dogs alike, as well as one that gives us the opportunity to develop and showcase new products in home, fashion and accessories.”
What started as a concept store has now become a full sensory experience for visitors, offering locally made, artisanal wares in a setting that showcases products in a creative and stand-out environment.
With an ever-changing offering and plans for collaborations with local designers in the future, there is always something new in store for vibey owners and pooches to peruse. “We believe in a luxury that can be enjoyed 24/7; from a glorious walk with your dog in the morning to striking products and designs that bring joy and ease to everyday life” Kjin adds. And we think that’s totally pawsome too.
