Tasty stamps : Belgium is world-renowned for its chocolate. Their new collection of national stamps not only smell like chocolate, but the adhesive backing tastes like chocolate too! |
Stamps to collect : The cocoa-like essence that sets these apart from regular stamps was formulated by top perfumers from several European countries. |
Delicious decoration : Alexander decribes the melting process as representing the phases of the sunrise. This fantastic lighting display ends in an even more fantastic chocolate fondue. |
Lumiere au Chocolat : Alexander Lervik's design explores the contrasts between light and dark, and is a chocolate light casing in a pyramidal shape with the tip cut off. The chocolate slowly melts away when the LED light is turned on. Mmmmmmmmm. |
Eat my head : The FabCafe in Shibuya, Japan, ran a special workshop where participants could have their head captured by a high-tech machine that provides a 360° scan to make unique 3D printed chocolate mold. |
Freaky or fantastic? : Much more personal than a store-bought Easter egg. |
Cadbury's unmeltable chocolate : The busy scientists at Cadbury's HQ have come up with a method of making their delicious bars so that that they won't melt in less that 40 degrees celsius (usually 33.5). This means no more misshapen dairy milks... though it is so good licking the packet! |
100% Chocolate Cafe : Japanese interior designer Masamichi Katayama of Wonderwall Studio was the creative force behind this 100% chocolate cafe in Tokyo, which was completed earlier this year. The centre-piece consists of large, overs-sized chocolate bars made of dark wood. |
Chocolate choices : The shop sells over 56 different types of chocolate, each one packaged in bright, identifiable colours and numbered according to the "chocolate library" index. |
Honest Chocolate, our favourite local chocolatiers : Did you see them at the Design Indaba? Honest Chocolate is a small artisanal chocolate company based in Cape Town. All their chocolate is hand crafted in small batches using traditional, old-school chocolate making methods. |
The real stuff : They use organic, raw cacao, which is higher in antioxidants and therefore even better for you than regular dark chocolate. The cacao is ethically sourced from Ecuador and the final masterpiece is dairy and processed sugar free. Love the packaging too. |
Chocolate vinyl : French producer and DJ Breakbot certainly gets a prize for originality with his new single “By Your Side.” The edible vinyl is made completely of chocolate, and works on any record player. |
A tasty track : This delicious vinyl retails for $21 and, if the song gets on your nerves, you know what to do. |

Some can’t live without it. Some do their best to avoid it. We love the stuff, and now it’s Easter time, we’re all about chocolate. In VISI’s own grand chocolate hunt, we have uncovered some of the most inventive new chocolate designs on Earth. Although, as we all know, when it comes to Easter Sunday, any old Lindt will do.
