This week, the Old Biscuit Mill in Cape Town hosts a Proudly Capetonian furniture exhibition of collaborative pieces by some of our best local designers and manufacturers.
Aimed at promoting local design, participating exhibitors include VISI favourites Pedersen & Lennard, Liam Mooney, Heath Nash, Haldane Martin, Pierre Cronje, Tsai Design Studio, Vogel Designs and many others.
The brainchild of the Western Cape Furniture Initiative, which was established in 2009 to develop and grow the local furniture industry, it’s a feel-good initiative well worth supporting.
At the launch event on Wednesday, Laurence Brick, co-founder of Loads of Living, commented that the South African furniture scene has changed dramatically over the past decade. We now have a distinctive, playful, honest aesthetic – something we didn’t have before – and there’s a definite drive to promote and create design that stands in direct opposition to global mass consumerism.
“It’s important to have events such as these where South African consumers can interact with the products we create,” he said.
You’re invited to view the exhibition on Thursday, 25 August, from 10am – 6pm, and Friday, 26 August, from 10am – 2pm, at the Old Biscuit Mill, 375 Albert Road, Salt River.
Mark it in your diary – we guarantee it’s a fantastic showcase of inspiring, “local-is-lekker” furniture designs.
