Bright Apartment in Mallorca

WORDS Cheri Morris

Situated in Pollença’s charming medieval street on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca, House N° 3 boasts crisp whites with splashes of colour and panoramic views.

Designed by German architectural design firm KRESINGS, this contemporary island abode is found in Mallorca’s northern town; well-known for its buzzing Sunday market and the ancient stairway that leads to the breathtaking pinnacle of Mount Cavalry. The street in which it is found, Carrer del Sol, is seemingly frozen in time and representative of Pollença’s cultivated approach to architecture and craftsmanship.

A total of 125 square metres spread over four levels, the eclectically curated space embodies all the unique architectural qualities of the region. The scorching summer months are nothing to worry about at House N° 3 due to the ground floor’s 90 cm-thick brick walls that allow for automatic temperature regulation, while the south-facing façade was carefully adapted to welcome the bright sunshine of the day.

House N° 3 is an all-white canvas apart from two colourful design elements that mark the transition between inside and outside with a bright, welcoming yellow: the main entrance door and the staircase between the kitchen and the terrace. A renovation during the ’60s saw the structure extended by one story (a rarity in Mallorca) and is now the only structure in a reasonably large proximity to enjoy a rooftop terrace and awe-inspiring panoramic views.
