Boundless Table by Rocket Design

WORDS Stefanie Jason

A Boundless dining table by Rocket Design is not only easy to transport and assemble but it also looks good in any setting.

“I enjoy industrial furniture design pieces that have a purpose and are well thought out,” says designer Werner Openshaw when asked what excites him about furniture. But it’s more than just purposeful and crafty design that led to the creation of his coveted Boundless table: It was visual pleasure too.

The table with its minimalist lines consists of a solid kiaat top and powder-coated legs. Like useable art, the Boundless table is rugged yet sleek enough to feature prominently in spaces ranging from the dining room to the patio.

When Werner designed the table, he wanted it to be easy to transport and to assemble without an instruction manual. It is this kind of simplicity that informs Werner’s work, and the work of his three-year-old Joburg-based company Rocket Design.

“It all starts on paper with a few sketches,” he says about how Rocket’s designs come to be. “Then I think about how to simplify it and make it practical.”

The wood grain on each piece is distinct, says Werner, and if you like you can create your own tabletop using an old door or slab of glass. “The options are boundless.”

Rocket Design furniture is adaptable and customisable to suit different environments and budgets. The Boundless table, for example, is available in five seater-size options, ranging in price from R6 500 for a four-seater to R23 500 for a 12-seater.
