Alongside the Oubaai golf course sits House Jonker, winner of the sixth edition of The Quinquennial Tile Award. Designed with a contemporary look and feel, this build boasts the comforting warmth any home owner would desire.
The natural stone tile range, Uptown by Century, provides the timeless natural look so many search for. It also allows for a full colour palette. These tiles pair well with multiple aesthetics – one in which house Jonker indulged in with bold choices. “We accomplished the timeless homely look by using a lot of contrast. Dark moody tones contrasted with lighter more natural tones,” says Interior Designer, Marie De Lange of Kaza Interiors. Since Uptown has a warm undertone, it was just a matter of time that this grand space transformed into a fantastic family home using wood and natural materials to tie it all together.
Watching as the house comes alive throughout the day, we can’t help but notice how the natural light shows off the stunning details and texture of this tile. “The colours, textures and designs of Uptown from Century sell themselves. There is no need to explain the beauty and quality of this rich tile. Thanks to the beautiful designs by Century, clients see it as we do and immediately share our vision for their homes,” adds Johan (Drom) Van Tonder, COO and Head of Sales at Stiles.
For Yvette Buitendag of Buitendag Architects, designing a home is about delivering structures that remain distinguished many years after their completion, not only being beautiful initially, but remaining beautiful over time. This was this achieved in her design, and further enforced by the natural beauty of Uptown from Century.
Modern homes can appear cold and impersonal, but not House Jonker, a home that creates the perfect balance of modern and cosy. This balance is achieved by the amazing dream team involved in this project: Yvette Buitendag of Buitendag Architects, Marie De Lange of Kaza Interiors and Johan (Drom) Van Tonder of Stiles.
