INTERVIEWED BY Michaela Stehr
Local artist Michaela Rinaldi chats to VISI about the inspirations and influences for her colourful and emotive works.
How did you get involved in art?
It has always been my love and passion from childhood, but I never pursued it after school, as starting a family required a stable income. When I resigned from my job in sales five years ago, it was a given that it was time to follow my heart and my passion and start painting again.
What inspires and influences your work?
My work is influenced by my personal journey; one of introspection, a therapy I go to daily. It’s a gift that has changed my life in so many ways.
What mediums do you use?
Primarily acrylics. I work quite quickly, so it suits my style. I also love charcoal and ink, which I use a lot, and I love experimenting with gold and copper leaf.
Are there any artists you admire?
Irma Stern’s portraits are utterly beautiful to me, as well as William Kentridge’s use of ink and line. Robert Hodgins and Ilana Seati’s figurative work and use of colour inspires me too. The list goes on…
Describe your work in four words.
Colourful. Figurative. Linear. Bold.
