Artists We Love: Andrew Aitchison

We decided to chat to local multidisciplinary artist Andrew Aitchison about his work after spotting his pieces at the recent THAT ART FAIR.

Andrew has worked on a wide range of projects in various fields, for companies like 2bop, Studio-H, and Black Major, and has recently completed a degree in Fine Art at Michaelis.

How did you get into art?

I started drawing cartoon characters when I was 6.

What are your inspirations?

The every day. The human condition. Humour. Buildings and structures. Labour and time. Cultural differences. Music and sounds.

How would you describe your style?

Messy. D.I.Y. Confident. Not too serious. Thoughtful.

Who are some of your favourite local artists?

Cuss Group. Atang Tshikare. Hannerie Visser. Lazola Gola. Unathi Mkhonto. Robin Rhode. Ismail Farouk.

Do you have a favourite piece of your own?

Yes, I like the Brick Work series quite a lot.

Do you have any exciting plans for the future?

I have a solo show at the Bubblegum Club project space coming up soon. Dates TBC.
