Africa’s Tallest Building: Morocco

With 114 storeys reaching 540 metres (to represent Africa’s 54 countries), it’s been reported that Africa’s tallest skyscraper will be built in Morocco’s bustling Casablanca in June 2015.

The unofficial name for this estimated $1 billion building is “Al-Noor Tower”, which will house a seven-star hotel, a shopping mall and a business centre. The design will reportedly incorporate patterns representing Africa’s diverse list of languages.

Project manager Amede Santalo told AFP, “We chose Morocco because it is the gateway to Africa and Europe, a modern country and politically stable.”

At 223 metres, Joburg’s Carlton Centre has held the title for the continent’s tallest building since 1973.
