Africa Centre: Artists In Residency Programme

WORDS Malibongwe Tyilo

In contrast to artists from European, Asian, American and even Latin American countries, there are often a limited number of opportunities for Africa-based artists to participate in residency programmes.

To deal with this, the Cape Town-based Africa Centre, established in 2005, developed the Artists In Residency (AIR) programme in 2011, which partners with residency programmes around the world, and funds African artists to take part in those residencies.

AIR is currently taking applications for one of their 2015/2016 residencies. The fare and the cost of the residency is fully covered. Artists can be at various stages of the careers, from emerging artists to late career artists, across visual arts, performing arts, creative and literary arts, film, music and curatorial practice.

Applications will be closing on 30 September 2015. To find out about the various residencies and to apply, visit africacentre.net.
