A sale of two cities

Seems Capetonians don’t have to wait for December for Gautengers to descend on the Mother City, with Joburg’s Maboneng Precinct now stretching its wings into Woodstock. At least it’s the stylish Gautengers!

The Made in Maboneng Temporium is a specialist retail store and project space based on the urban renewal and design hub in the heart of Jozi. Taking up residence at the trendy Woodstock Exchange for a while, the space stocks products and services produced in the Maboneng neighbourhood. It also hopes to develop projects and events aimed to bridge the gap between the two cities.

Among other brands, the Made in Maboneng Temporium features LoveJozi, a bespoke T-shirt label that aims to project the perception of Johannesburg as interesting, urban-savvy and hard-working. Love Jozi is also collaborating with Cape Town Unhinged to produce a range of goods that promote Cape Town in the build up to 2014 World Design Capital.

“LoveJozi mixes urban fashion with social consciousness. The South African born T-shirt label finds design inspiration from voices of optimism about Johannesburg’s rise and presence on the world stage of cities,” says founder Bradley Kirshenbaum.
