Fashion gets a makeover

A select group of local fashion designers took on the creative challenge of giving old clothes and discarded fabrics new form and life as part of the third Rock Me Again upcycling initiative in association with Jameson Whiskey.

Participating designers, including Adriaan Kuiters, Blasoen, Christopher Strong, Clive Rundle, Rachel de Mardt, Stefania Morland, Rosenwerth, Take Care, The Summit and UNkNOWN, were asked to give clothing that were destined for the landfill a contemporary aesthetic and a second life, culminating in two exhibitions in Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively.

The upcycled clothes were captured in exquisite fashion images by photographer Sivan Miller, and exhibited at vida e caffé in Greenside, Johannesburg, and Wembley Square shopping precinct in Gardens, Cape Town, last week.

The project involved encouraging vida e caffé customers to bring in their old clothes and drop them into Rock Me Again bins at participating caffés, giving them a chance to do their bit for the environment.
