The fifth annual C&CI Architectural Student Sustainable Design Competition is calling for entrants to take a look at how design can better African cities.
This year C&CI is looking for a design intervention, utilising concrete, which will be able to provide insight and solutions to real-world challenges within the broad theme ‘Future African City’.
“The world’s population is increasingly moving towards urban environments,” reads the brief. “This is especially true in Africa. But how can we use design to imagine better African cities and urban systems?”
Can African cities leapfrog into a sustainable future? How can we tackle sustainable transport systems? Is it possible to rethink cities as complete ecosystems? What will future city buildings look like? These are the questions submissions should answer.
Submission of names of participants must be sent to C&CI by 29 November 2011.
