Every year at the box office, animation films prove tough competition for their blockbuster rivals. This month the art of animation will be celebrated in Joburg.
The Kunjani’mation #1 two-day festival will run from 14 to 15 October and will be the first of its kind to take place in our country. Organised by the French Institute of South Africa, the festival will run at the Alliance Française of Johannesburg and the Wits School of Arts. It hopes to promote animation as a genre as well as provide a space for professionals to mingle and exchange views.
The Alliance Française will host two projection evenings, each featuring a variety of local and international films. Short films by South African directors, including William Kentridge and The Blackheart Gang, will be followed by short pieces from the Annecy International Film Festival with a few French films rounding out the night.
Wits Digital Arts will hold a variety of workshops on the 15th. Don’t miss the event if you’re looking to learn more about animation in art and business, or would like to see an exhibition of animation designs. Booking is essential.
