This month (September 2014), Italian brand Cassina is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic, award-winning sofa Maralunga, with a truly special (and futuristic) version.
Designed by Vico Magistretti and initially manufactured in the ‘70s, this new limited edition version, the two-seater Maralunga Mercurio Vivo in silver, is only available in an edition of 40. Like an original print, the sofas will come numbered between 1 and 40.
There’s only 10 more years to go until Magistretti reaches his goal of the Maralunga becoming an eternal piece in the world of design. “There are so very few eternal pieces: furniture becomes ‘eternal’ if it manages to survive at least 50 years. At that point it is forever.”
