Majeka House scoops Eat Out award

Makaron at Majeka House, whose interiors where transformed by VISI Art Director Etienne Hanekom, won the Boschendal Style Award over the weekend at the 2011 Eat Out DSTV Food Network Awards.

In a semi-suburban corner of Stellenbosch, on the way to Vriesenhof where some of the country’s finest Pinot Noir is made, you’ll find Majeka House. It looks no different from the houses around it: same white walls, flat, green roofs, and lush gardens. But recently this boutique hotel, consisting of five neighbouring properties, was dramatically transformed – from the inside. And, as any kindly aunt or nurturing friend will tell you, it’s what’s inside that counts.

No ordinary interior designer, VISI’s Etienne is responsible for this dramatic transformation in his signature eclectic style. Having been given complete creative freedom, a generous budget and several spaces needing to be built, redesigned or redecorated, Etienne spent six months creating a distinctive personality for the property. A property that had, until then, played it safe artistically speaking, and dare one say, been a bit bland in the beauty stakes.
