‘Your Street’: Grand winner announced

The grand winner of the ‘Your Street Challenge’, Cape Town edition, has been announced.

Lorena Pasquini, Mark Henning and Hannah Williams of the “Acre Road” concept have been pronounced the grand winner with their community-based design solution to improve the lives of Acre Road, Kensington residents using low-cost facilities to cater for positive community activities.

The team walks away with R100 000 to realise their project.

Yesterday Luke Pederson, Jenny Pederson, Kirsty Reilly, Jess Pederson and Katherine Spindler with the project “Violet’s Walk” were selected as the third winner. Their project proposes a clearly marked route in Woodstock with resting benches in strategically marked places along the way.

The second winners Andrew Cole, Rene Bakker, Andrea Ferry and Pieter H Botha of “Let us Grow” put forward an idea for an urban farming initiative that supplies fresh produce to urban dwellers, while also creating employment

Like Ashley Stemmet, Porky Hefer and Tsai of  “Urban Mosaic”, “Let us Grow” and “Violet’s Walk” will also receive R50 000 to realise their brief.

“Urban Mosaic’s” project, which was announced as a winner on Tuesday, proposes an aesthetically pleasing way to solve the problem of shack fires by painting the exteriors of shacks with fire-retardant paint.
