For the first time, VISI magazine readers and you, our online community, are invited to join the nomination process for the annual ABSOLUT VISI Designer of the Year award.
The ABSOLUT VISI Designer of the Year Award salutes South Africa’s heroes in the fields of decor, design and architecture. We go a bit broader than just that too: we’ll also be looking at garden and landscape design, as well as fabric, industrial, product, fashion and product design.
The search for the 2012 winners is now on and our panel of experts will shortly start sending in their nominations. We’re looking for the best of the best and we’d like to enlist your help too.
This year we’ll be awarding four prizes for remarkable projects in each of the fields of decor, design and architecture, plus a special prize for a designer in any field who has made an overall contribution to the design industry.
Previous winners of the award include interior designer Boyd Ferguson for the Hout Bay Manor Hotel, ceramicists Ceramic Matters, architect Peter Rich for the Mapungubwe Visitor Centre and our reigning duo of architects Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens for their Braamfontein master plan.
Here’s how it works:
1. Identify your choice of designer, decorator or architect – or a team – responsible for a specific piece of work completed in the past 12 months.
2. Describe the project for which you would like to nominate them.
3. Submit the names and contact details, plus the requirements above, on the easy-to-complete form below.
4. We’ll want your details too – to invite you to the party if your nomination wins, of course.
Nominate only those designers who’ve produced innovative work with a South African design signature in the period January–December 2011. Remember, there’s going to be a winner in each of the design, decor and architecture categories.
That’s where we take over:
Our panel of judges will look at the complete list of nominations and come up with a shortlist. The panel, together with our international judge, world-famous trends forecaster Li Edelkoort, will vote for the final winner, to be announced at a true VISI celebration during Design Indaba in Cape Town in February 2012.
