Parkhurst’s vibey 6th Street has welcomed furniture and homeware store Anima to its ranks. Run by Kim Mazabow and Carel Stadler, the shop stocks bespoke furniture and luxurious linen while offering a full decorating service.
A career in Europe and a few years abroad meant that Carel had a lot of free time hunting down foreign treasures – some of which now live in the Anima shop. So far, the response has been amazing, with clients loving the uniqueness and variety on offer.
VISI spoke to Kim, previously an independent decorator, to find out more about the creative pair and their brand-new store.
Why did you open Anima?
We opened it to showcase the beautiful pieces we’ve sourced with great love and care. It’s also an outlet for the furniture we produce locally and the vases and objet sourced from Europe – and it acts as a gallery for local artists. Anima is also a platform to showcase and sell our Lusso Linen range and the store acts as a platform for our contract work.
How would you describe the general aesthetic of the items sold at Anima?
Restrained glamour as reflected in magnificent gold leafed tables and mirrors and valuable art Nouveau cabinets… but with an edgy eclectic mix of art deco chairs found in Hungary juxtaposed with modern and contemporary sofas.
Which items are particularly popular?
The art deco armchairs from Hungary, the gilded lamp tables, the Kosta Boda products from Sweden and our locally produced sofas.
Why did you choose 6th Street as a location?
It’s a hot design destination, which we would like to be a part of. Several interior designers have premises here and the street is already lined with a variety of interior shops.
