More Vamp, less cramp

One of Woodstock, Cape Town’s favourite furniture stores, Vamp, has relocated. And although they haven’t moved far, with the change of location comes a haven of space and a wave of new stock.

Along with their famed upcycled Mid-century Modern furniture, homeware items and collectables, Vamp is now selling work by some of South Africa’s favourite designers. Expect to find work by the likes of John Bauer, Skinny laMinx, Isa Beau Peep, Lauren Fowler, Gwen Loves Harold, Smac Harry, Ikhaya, Moonbasket, René Rossouw and UK designs from Mengsel.

As you enter the new store, colour-coded kitchenware and collectables peep out at you from a variety of upcycled cabinets. Although every piece in the store is carefully selected or created, owner Paula van Niekerk says that right now the pièce de résistance of the room is the Orla Kiely wallpaper that brightens up the back wall. “The colour scheme of the new shop was actually inspired by the leaves on the spine of Orla Kiely’s book Pattern.”

The spacious new setup gives customers more room to imagine the pieces in their own homes. “You can see everything better now, compared to the previous store where things were cramped together,” Paula says.

One of the rooms, housing the majority of Vamp’s Mid-century Modern pieces, has a distinctly Scandinavian feel with grey walls and muted lighting. From chairs and tables, to lamps and cabinets, anyone with a thing for 50s, 60s and 70s furniture may have the desire to move right in.

The new store officially opened on Friday, 22 July. We suggest you add a visit to your weekend to-do list. Open Monday – Friday from 9.30am – 4.30pm and Saturday from 8.30am – 3pm
