Patchwork fans listen up: vintage mix and match prints are no longer relegated to quilts, thanks to Dutch designers Vij5. Their Magnetic Wallpaper sees delicate patterns brightening up the wall one strip at a time.
By sticking old wallpaper to magnetic foil (which in turn easily connects to walls slicked with a coat of magnetic paint) Vij5 have effectively created modular wallpaper that can bedeck an entire room, or simply liven up a specific section of wall. And when you grow tired of the patchwork pattern you’ve created just pull off the strips and start again.
The Vij5 team maintain that this represents their attempt to preserve older wallpapers, which are becoming a rarity with the boom of vinyl alternatives. They also think this is a creative way to combine art and décor in the home. “The detailed relief and special use of colours was what really caught our attention,” they say.
Available in blue, green, yellow, pink and mixed prints, the Magnetic Wallpaper patterns do differ from order to order due to the scare availability of the wallpaper itself.
