Against the elements

We’re impressed: a sophisticated range of outdoor textiles, now available in South Africa for the first time, comes with a five-year no-fade guarantee, putting a whole new spin on outdoor entertaining.

In the words of Home Fabrics’ Haidee Kramer, who launched the UV Pro Outdoor Fabrics at OKHA in Cape Town this week, the range is “utterly top-notch”, ticking all the right boxes. The 100% solution-dyed acrylics don’t fade when coming into contact with chlorine or seawater, and are “green conscious”, extremely robust and fully washable.

Of course, what really interests us is the fabric design. Well, we’re happy to report that the textiles come in a fabulous range of plains, stripes, graphic patterns, dobby prints, textured neutrals and eye-catching leopard prints as well as classic houndstooth motifs.

Set against the backdrop of OKHA’s refined designer furniture, the fabrics came alive at the launch. Fans of the design studio and showroom will also be thrilled to hear that OKHA has just introduced several new accessory ranges, including – among others – exquisite marble cylinders by Lisa Firer, glass “glaciers” and bowls by David Read, decanters by Guido van Besouw and white urchin-like sculptures by Samantha Morgan.
