As one of Cape Town Furniture Week’s main exhibitions, BOX—FRESH featured new exciting designs by a handful of local brands. We’ve rounded-up a few innovative designs which caught our eye.

BOX––FRESH, an official Cape Town Furniture Week exhibition highlighted new pieces by both emerging and established brands and designers based in the city. The exhibition, which included pieces from Curación Collection, Dark Horse, Ex Hotel, Green Brother, HALDANE, HOI P’LOY, KRAMER, N I S H, MET Furniture Studio, Timothy Penfold Studio, Vitalli., and Wiid Design, embodied the mission of Cape Town Furniture Week as a platform for launching new designs and driving innovation in the local contemporary furniture industry. Here are our favourite pieces showcased at the exhibition:

The Carson Collection by HOI P’LOY

HOI P’LOY‘s new lighting collection –THE CARSON COLLECTION – took over two years to develop. After working through design and manufacturing challenges, the solid brass lighting range is a true masterpiece.

Simple, sleek and made from galvanised black mild steel, the Cono Nested Coffee Table by Dark Horse is an ideal piece for outdoor spaces. In terms of design, the refined nature of this coffee table ticks all the boxes for us.

Interior design studio, Curación Collection, recently collaborated with KESSO Editions producing a series of structured, three-dimensional collages. The architectural silhouettes of the series has a strong monochrome aesthetic, which makes for a peaceful, yet intriguing composition.

Haldane Martin’s Lucky Chairs – which includes a stool, dining chair, lounge chair and loveseat – is full of positive, happy feels. Each of the almost chubby-looking chairs share two main elements: buxom upholstery and clean arcs, making them both chic and undeniably comfortable.

Another new launch which caught our eye during Cape Town Furniture Week (but didn’t form part of BOX–FRESH) was Pedersen + Lennard‘s new UMPIRE Collection, which is inspired by a game of tennis. The rounded form and gentle curves express a sense of playfulness that is central to the outdoor furniture range. Made from stainless steel and coated with a hard wearing outdoor primer, the range is designed for longevity.
